Hacin is happy to welcome three new team members to the studio this summer!

Michael Chmiel, joining our architecture practice, Kayleigh Therriault, joining our interiors practice, and Nina Jade Batucan, our newest co-op, have all began their time at Hacin recently and we’re thrilled to have new faces joining us on our projects. Read on to learn more about these stellar individuals who are already wonderful additions to our team!

Michael Chmiel

Michael joined Hacin’s architecture practice in the summer of 2026. He received a Master of Architecture degree from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University and received his Bachelor’s degree from Roger Williams University. While a student at Washington University, he studied abroad in Barcelona for a semester and during the subsequent summer, interned in Madrid. Through these experiences in Spain, he fostered an appreciation for design grounded in local context while part of a global discourse.

During his graduate studies, Michael and his teammates earned first place in Washington University’s Year End Show Competition for exhibition design and its ensuing production, which was on display during May 2026. Metropolis Magazine featured him as a 2026 Future100 honoree, which celebrates the top 25 graduate architecture students in North America. Before entering his masters program, he gained experience as a drafter for mid to high-rise concrete buildings in New York City. Beyond design, he enjoys traveling, staying active through sports and hiking, and reading.

Kayleigh Therriault

Kayleigh Therriault joined Hacin in 2026 and has worked in residential interior design since her graduation from the University of New Haven in 2023.  She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts summa cum laude in Interior Design with a concentration in pre-architecture. As part of her education, she studied abroad in Tuscany in 2022, an experience that imparted within her an appreciation for historic architecture. She became a LEED Green Associate in 2024, reflecting her commitment to sustainable design.

Originally from Maine, her home state sparked her love of nature and spending time outdoors. She enjoys collaborating across architecture and interiors disciplines to curate spaces that are impactful for the end-user. She is an avid concert-goer and outside of the office you can find her cuddling with her two cats, reading, or traveling.

Nina Jade Batacan

Aloha! Nina Jade Batacan is a third-year undergraduate student Northeastern University’s School of Architecture. She became interested in architecture in early childhood and built forts made of every material and structure available. Outdoor living and a seamless merging of nature and the indoors heavily influence her motivations as a designer. Inspired by her upbringing in the beautiful state of Hawai’i, she engages in thoughtful design concerned with sustainable resources and maintenance. Her approach centers on respecting local context, and creating space not only for an individual, but to be filled by a community. Design on many scales interests her, from large urban planning to the details of typefaces. Fun fact, Corbel is her favorite font! Outside of the studio, she enjoys repurposing magazines into collages, cooking and baking, and playing or talking about anything basketball!
