Downtown Boston Cafe

In 2023, Hacin responded to a call for proposals to design a café concept on a prominent site in the heart of downtown Boston. Meant to replace an existing establishment, programmatic goals for the new café included increasing interior and outdoor seating, improving kitchen layout and efficiency, optimizing for extended hours and event capabilities, and creating a design language that reflected and complemented the surrounding buildings in the area. After completing a conceptual exploration process that included testing out numerous ideas through 2D drawings and 3D models, the project team proposed three distinct design concepts that addressed the programmatic and aesthetic goals of the prompt. The three options address a range of solutions that touch on the program, scale, form, materiality, and connectivity needs of the site, offering transferable problem-solving methods for a multi-faceted result.
