Shalin Liu Performance Center

Hacin’s interdisciplinary team completed an interior refresh of the Shalin Liu Performance Center, which has served the North Shore community with year-round concerts and events since its construction in 2010. Its parent organization, Rockport Music, hired Hacin to execute the refresh with the goal of unifying the common spaces and overseeing construction and installation during a short, two-month gap in their schedule. The commercial interior design included new paint, lighting, finishes, and a targeted furniture package, touching the lobby, stairways and circulation, public restrooms, artist green room, and fourth floor reception hall. Color variations and organic striations of rocks from the nearby Cape Ann harbor provided palette inspiration and a programmatic use of these tones layered color throughout the building, combining cool shades of water and granite with warm accents representing sand and minerals. This color story, along with textural wallcoverings and carpets, and functional improvements to the operation of the spaces have uplifted the interiors of the center to match the caliber of their exceptional arts programming.
